Safeguarding Their Futures, a conference focused on the current state of education for youth and children involved in the child welfare system across New York City, will feature a full day of addresses, panel discussions and work sessions. Part of a year of programming created in honor of our 150th anniversary, this education conference brings education and child welfare experts together to discuss educational issues affecting youth in the child welfare system, identify areas for additional research, and explore promising new initiatives.
Keynote addresses for the symposium will be delivered by Jennifer K. Pokempner, Senior Attorney for the Juvenile Law Center and Janis Avery, CEO of Treehouse – a leading nonprofit that provides academic and other essential supports to youth in care. Additional speakers will include David A. Hansell, Commissioner for the NYC Administration for Children’s Services; Jessica Nauiokas, Head of School at Haven Academy; Vanessa Barrat, Senior Research Associate for WestEd Regional Education Lab; Jess Dannhauser, President and CEO of Graham Windham and more.
